There's a reason the Bush administration backed a weak horse like ethanol: derived from corn grown by major corporations that lobbied him for it. The technology hasn't been perfected, as many sceptics are quick to point out, but if 1/10000 of the budget spent on exploration and development of oil fields were directed that way, I doubt it would be a year before we have all the biofuels we need.
